Strategy in the City
Introducing Karin Swiatnik (nee Mahoney), Consultant and Director of Strategy in the City Pty Ltd.
I founded Strategy in the City with a vision to bring some pragmatism, creativity and fun (yes really, I mean it!) to IT strategic planning and governance.
With extensive strategic and operational IT leadership experience, my collaborative approach and expertise have been applied within State Government, Not-for-Profit, the Private Sector, and five distinct Local Government organisations.
As a past President of Local Government IT SA Incorporated (LGITSA), I remain passionate about enhancing strategic IT capability across the sector.
My qualifications include a degree in applied mathematics with economics and law subjects, certifications in project management and change management, and Graduate Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
Combined with a professional background in business analysis, project management, and executive and senior leadership, I have a unique perspective and talent for IT strategic planning and governance.
Never to become a document on a shelf, I work collaboratively with clients to develop IT strategies that align with your organisation's direction and empower you to navigate the fast-evolving digital landscape with confidence.

How SITCITY makes a difference
I couldn't help but wonder ...
Why are IT strategic planning and mature IT governance important and how do they benefit my organisation and role?
Provides a clear vision and course of action for investment in IT, aligned with my organisation's direction.
Promotes clear accountabilities and transparency in IT decision-making, risk management, and resource allocation.
Records my strategic thinking (one less thing to keep me awake at night!), helps me to manage customer and stakeholder expectations, guides and enhances IT decision-making, and connects my team to a shared purpose.
Gives internal customers a clear plan of upcoming IT initiatives, supporting collaboration across the organisation to deliver business value.
Reassures the organisation's customers that IT expenditure is being made wisely and aligned with their needs.
Demonstrates how IT will support and deliver value to my area of the business, and anticipates how emerging technologies could be applied to meet my future business needs.
Provides a holistic, long-term view of IT initiatives, enabling better allocation of resources and maximising the return on investment.
Helps with my forward planning and resource allocation by indicating future IT initiatives which may require procurement processes and support.
Connects me with a shared purpose and clear direction to guide my day to day work and decisions.
And just like that, SITCITY seemed the answer.
